Over a Century of Business Education with Purpose

Brief SBA History

From a small commercial department in 1908 to a globally connected professional school, the School of Business Administration has grown alongside its mission to prepare ethical, faith-driven leaders. Our story is marked by innovation, purpose, and a commitment to excellence that continues to shape our students today.

1908 — Foundations in Business Education Begin

The story of SBA starts in 1908 with the creation of the Commercial Department at Emmanuel Missionary College. This early program focused on equipping students with practical business skills, laying the foundation for a tradition of faith-based, professional preparation that continues today.

1952 — Department of Business Administration Established

As business programs expanded, all instruction was formally organized into the Department of Business Administration. This marked a major step forward in creating a structured, academically rigorous business education aligned with the university’s mission.

1964 — Graduate Business Education Launched

The school welcomed its first MBA candidates in 1964, marking the beginning of graduate-level business studies at Andrews. This milestone signaled SBA’s growing impact and its commitment to preparing advanced leaders for service and influence.

1980 — SBA Becomes a Professional School

In July 1980, the School of Business Administration was formally established as the university’s third professional school. This designation elevated the school’s visibility, leadership, and capacity to shape Christian business education on a global scale.

Today — Housed in Chan Shun Hall

Now located in Chan Shun Hall, SBA continues to thrive as a hub for ethical business education, innovation, and global leadership. The school’s home reflects its continued growth and its dedication to serving students with excellence and purpose.
