The stories of those who have faced tremendous odds and emerged triumphant are not merely accounts of individuals; they are beacons of hope for everyone. Cin Thang’s life journey is one such chronicle. It is a testimony of sheer grit, unwavering faith, and an indomitable spirit that saw him rise from the depths of adversity to become an inspirational figure at Andrews University’s School of Business Administration (SBA).
From the Mountains of Myanmar to the Bustling Lanes of Malaysia
Born amid the lush terrains of Myanmar, Thang’s early years were marked by conflict. The political unrest that gripped Myanmar in the early 2000s changed the course of his life forever. The country he called home was no longer safe, forcing him on a treacherous journey to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
But life in Malaysia wasn’t kind either. As an undocumented refugee, Thang found himself navigating a society where he was invisible, resorting to work in a Chinese restaurant as a dishwasher and cook. However, the looming shadow of his illegal status caught up with him, leading to his incarceration by the Malaysian authorities.
A Glimmer of Hope
In the bleakness of the jail cell, hope emerged in the form of the UNHCR team, informed about Burmese refugees like Thang. Their intervention paved the way for Thang’s repatriation to the United States.
Arriving in California with minimal English and meager funds, Thang turned to the Lutheran Church, whose members extended their arms in support. They assisted him in settling down and finding employment.
New Beginnings in Oklahoma
Tulsa, Oklahoma, saw Thang’s entrepreneurial spirit flourish. Juggling multiple jobs and running a successful moving business, his dedication was evident. The Oklahoma National Guard further benefited from his skills when he enlisted as a 91B Light-Weight Vehicle Mechanic.
However, amidst all this, a divine calling pulled him towards Andrews University. Feeling God’s nudge, he decided to embark on an academic journey in Information Systems, aspiring to later delve into Church Ministry. This wasn’t just a personal endeavor; it was Thang’s way of giving back to the Almighty, who had been his guiding force through every tribulation.
Today’s Cin Thang
Blessed with a loving wife and four children, Thang’s life today is a testament to the miraculous turns life can take. While he continues to serve his country, he is also an integral part of the Junior Information Tech Services (JRITS) program at SBA, under the astute leadership of Derill Legoh. His role is pivotal in ensuring that the technological needs of teachers, students, and staff are met efficiently.
Cin Thang’s journey, from the turbulent terrains of Myanmar to the hallowed halls of Andrews University, exemplifies that with faith and tenacity, no obstacle is insurmountable. His life serves as an emblem of hope, resilience, and unwavering commitment to one’s calling. Today, as he stands at the crossroads of service and education, Cin Thang is not just an Information Systems Major student at SBA; he is a beacon of inspiration for all.
